The MTA no longer offers daily MetroCards. Instead, they’ve transitioned to a new system called OMNY. OMNY is a contactless payment method that allows you to use a smartphone, smartwatch, or contactless credit/debit card to tap and pay directly at subway turnstiles and on buses.
It’s a convenient way to travel since you don’t need to worry about purchasing or reloading a physical card. Some of the key benefits of OMNY include:
- Contactless and Convenient: Just tap your phone or card at the reader and go.
- Fare Capping: After a certain number of rides within a week, your rides become free, similar to an unlimited ride pass.
- Easy Integration: OMNY works with Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and most contactless credit and debit cards. To get started, you can simply use your existing smartphone with a mobile wallet (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.) or a contactless credit/debit card at the OMNY reader when you enter the subway or bus.
We strongly recommend you avail of this service it pays for itself after 12 rides and everything after that is free with in the seven day period including buses.
For more information, see the MTA website.
